Embracing Odessa’s Architectural Heritage: A Private House Design by Sivak+Partners
Hi! My name is Stefan, and I’m one of the architects on the team at Sivak+Partners. Today, I’m excited to share with you the project of a private house we designed in Odessa.
Architects in Ukraine are often accused of creating projects that lack a clear connection to the local context, resulting in an overly international aesthetic. However, for this private house, we were determined to embrace the rich architectural heritage of Odessa. We chose to use sandstone, the same material that has been used to construct half of Odessa’s landmarks and famous buildings.
By incorporating this local material, we aimed to create a design that seamlessly blends with the city’s iconic architecture, while still maintaining a modern and functional approach. This strategic decision not only pays homage to Odessa’s history but also ensures that the house harmonizes with its surroundings, becoming an integral part of the city’s architectural landscape.
Through this project, we’ve demonstrated our commitment to respecting the local context and celebrating the unique character of Odessa. By thoughtfully integrating the city’s architectural identity into our design, we’ve created a private residence that is both visually striking and deeply rooted in the local culture.
